![]() The M2TS uses variable rate (VBR) Transport Streams instead of the typical constant rates (CBR) found in MPEG-2 TS broadcast for optimizing the storage size. The modified MPEG-2 transport stream specification for random-access media (such as DVD, Blu-ray Disc, hard drive, solid state memory cards) is a BDAV media container which is informally called M2TS. M2TS files can be played on the devices supporting playback of AVCHD, such as, Sony PlayStation 3s, Sony Bravia TVs, Western Digital WDTVs, Xtreamer media player, Amkette FlashTV HD Media Player and Panasonic Viera TVs supporting AVCHD. This file format is based on the MPEG-2 transport stream container and used for multiplexing audio, video and other streams. An M2TS file contain the high definition video on Blu-ray Disc and AVCHD.
